Well, we arrived in Cape Town at 8.00 am this morning, after a smooth flight. Managed to sleep for about 6 (disturbed) hours, but didn't feel too bad. Went to pick up our hire car to find that we had been upgraded to a mini bus! Luxury. We then managed to navigate our way to Fish Hoek where we found our quaint accommodation. Perfect for what we want/need and enjoyed a cup of tea and some chill out time in the sunshine by the pool.
We then set off on our first adventure, heading out toward Simon's Town, stopping at Glencairn to have a look at my parents old house. Not only did we find their house, but a couple of old neighbours that the family had lost touch with. Dear old Jenny was still living opposite and we have arranged to go out for dinner on Monday evening with her - at Dixie's in Glencairn! Should be a fond trip down memory lane.
We then drove to the scratch patch and I managed to scrabble around in the semi-precious covered floor and pick out a couple of bags for Amanda and Sam! Vron and I also looked longingly at some nice sparkly rings, but sometimes men can be a bit deaf to lots of unsubtle hints!! Actually, there wasn't anything there that was particularly appealing, apart from the lovely, very expensive diamonds!
We found 'Bertha's' in Simon's Town and settled down for what we thought was a snack! Out came hugemongous portions of Hake, Calamari and prawns (pasta for Dean) and we then rolled ourselves down to the harbour to try and walk off some of our over indulgence! We then followed the road round to Boulders Beach and spent a lovely hour walking amongst the Jackass Penguins and laughing at their aptly named calls to each other - they aren't called Jackass Penguins for nothing!
We stopped at the store on the way home, (both food and liquor) and have now got ample supplies in to keep us going (well for tonight at least). Don't think it will be a late one, need to catch up on the sleep we missed last night.
Nice photo of Mom and Pops old house ...
ReplyDeleteYes, it's now green, but it used to be red! Quite nostalgic!
